Aaron Rodgers: We’ve got to start faster, let our defense play with an edge

The Jets’ offense came out strong against the Titans in Week 2, as Aaron Rodgers led a 74-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to break a 17-17 tie and lead the Jets to their first win of the season.

It was the Jets’ third touchdown drive of the day, making it two straight weeks with three offensive touchdowns for a team that has scored 18 over the entire 2023 season. That would seem to be a sign that the unit is coming together in Rodgers’ return from a torn Achilles tendon, but Rodgers focused on the three-pointer that opened the Titans game when asked how close the offense is to full flight.

“It doesn’t really matter how close we are,” Rodgers said, via a team transcript. “What’s important is what we’ve done on the field, you know, how close we are is great for coaches because they can coach, the whole thing, but you know, it would be a shame to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, so you know, we’ve got to change a few things, we’ve got to be a little sharper, we’ve got to start quicker. We’ve started really slow the first two weeks, so we’ve got to start quicker, put something together in the first 15 (plays), give our defense a chance to play with an edge.”

Coming from behind is easier when the opponent is attacking stupid playsBut that’s not something the Jets can count on every week, so finding a way to get going right away is the logical next step for the offense, and they’ll get a chance to do that against the Patriots on Thursday night.
