Something special is happening.

What many considered a potential trap game for the Washington Commanders in Week 5 was anything but. Dan Quinn’s side blew away the Cleveland Browns with minimal fuss, despite rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels finally looking human after an exceptional opening to the campaign. It was a professional, balanced performance at all stages, which saw them emerge as comfortable victors.

The Commanders are the five-week surprise of the 2024 NFL season. They are 4-1 atop the NFC East. This is more than just a flash in the pan. Washington not only beats teams, they do so comfortably and with ruthless conviction.

If the Commanders can somehow successfully end their trip to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6, all bets are off. This is the toughest test of their season so far, but they have nothing to fear from playing with house money.

That’s for the not too distant future. For now, here are five winners and two losers from Washington’s big win over the Browns at Northwest Stadium in Week 5.

Tyler Biadasz – Commanders C

The Washington Commanders needed a big performance from their offensive line in this case. It wasn’t flawless, but that was never going to be the case against a stout Cleveland Browns defense, which also brought plenty of second-level pressure for good measure. However, there was a lot to like about the way this device repurposed itself.

Tyler Biadasz once again provided a striking show. The veteran center is quickly becoming one of the best signings of the offseason. He set the tone from the first whistle, tearing people up on the run, showing exceptional pre-snap communication and also holding his own in pass protection to further increase his impact.

The commanders identified Biadasz as a high-priority target when free will began. Dan Quinn knew the references he could bring from their time together on the Dallas Cowboys. There is still a long way to go, but this seems like an excellent piece of work from the organization in a position that was crying out for consistency.
