5 Things to Watch for When Andy Dalton Plays Against the Raiders

Questions remain about the D-line

The Panthers listed nose tackle Shy Tuttle (foot) as questionable and defensive end A’Shawn Robinson (knee) as questionable. Robinson was able to practice Thursday and Friday, albeit in a limited capacity. Tuttle did not practice all week.

This throws a lot of things into disarray for the D-line heading into Vegas, especially after losing Derrick Brown (knee) for the year. As such, Evero is willing to turn to a group of young players who may be unproven but show promise.

“Ultimately, we have confidence in those guys. Nick Thurman, LaBryan Ray, (Jayden Peevy), all those guys played some snaps,” Evero expressed his support earlier this week.

To Evero’s point, Ray, Peevy and Thurman have all played snaps on defense in the first two weeks. Peevy in particular, despite only playing 39 snaps, is someone that coaches see the potential to step up even more in the absence of others.

“That’s what we saw from him in training camp. He’s got size, he’s got length, he’s a really good athlete. We think he’s a really good rusher. And so there’s a lot to work with,” Evero said of Peevy.

Canales added: “Learning the system. As he does that, he’s huge. He’s got great length. He can play with power and just look for him to put it all together to be that consistent force where he can impact things on 1st, 2nd and 3rd down.

We see that kind of potential in him, but he just has to continue to learn the system and where he needs to be in his holes and all that stuff. So he continues to grow, he helps us. I’m looking forward to seeing how he continues to grow.”

DeShawn Williams, who played in 16 games and started 10 times last year, is also on the practice squad and could be the replacement if Tuttle remains injured.
