2024 MTV VMA Performances: Which Was Your Favorite?

Suffice it to say, the 2024 MTV VMAs on Wednesday night (September 11) were a lot. The 40th anniversary of the former music video channel’s landmark awards show handed out roughly two Moonpersons per hour over the course of its 190-minute running time, but you might not have noticed because there were also 16 star-studded performances that paid tribute to the network’s past, present and future.

Now it’s time to rewind and answer the most important question of all: which performances did you enjoy the most?

Maybe you’re a traditionalist who enjoys the comfort food of MTV’s iconic stars from the pre-YouTube era, in which case Eminem’s wig-wearing show-opening medley might be your thing, or perhaps hip-hop legend LL Cool J’s homage to Def Jam and his own four-decade career? If that’s your thing, then the perpetually shirtless Lenny Kravitz might be at the top of your list, and Katy Perry’s dance-heavy visual extravaganza celebrating her greatest hits ahead of her Video Vanguard Award ceremony is probably on your list, too.

Other sets to choose from include BLACKPINK member LISA’s run through her solo numbers “New Woman” and “Rockstar” and a trio of stage-burning performances from Latin American icons Karol G, Rauw Alejandro and Anitta, who added killer choreography and a touch of Broadway dazzle to the proceedings. Speaking of razzle, Benson Boone rocked a sparkly jumpsuit as he leapt from his piano for a backflipping set that elicited muffled screams.

Camilla Cabello smashed her laptop and got revenge on her ex during an intense “Godspeed,” while ex-flame Shawn Mendes did a super moody slow burn to his new track “Nobody Knows.” Host Megan Thee Stallion proved she’s a true doppelganger with an energetic medley, and if you haven’t already played Chappell Roan’s Gaga-esque medieval masterpiece reinterpretation of “Good Luck, Babe!” or Sabrina Carpenter’s otherworldly medley of recent hits, you might want to check out the tape for our rundown of every performance.

Billboard has already selected the best performances of the night, so now it’s your turn. Which 2024 VMA performance was your favorite? Vote below!
