WINDER, Ga. (TND) — Four people have been killed in a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation reports.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said one suspect has been arrested. The gunman who opened fire is believed to be a 14-year-old male, a law enforcement source told CNN. It’s unclear whether the suspect was a high school student. The suspect is alive and in custody, the department said in a post on X.

Law enforcement sources also told CNN that more than 30 people were injured in the shooting. The GBI confirmed that nine were transported to a hospital. It is unclear how many of those injuries were from gunshot wounds; the information is preliminary and subject to change.

The high school went into lockdown at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working to reunite students with their families.

According to the White House, President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation.

‘President Biden has been briefed by his Homeland Security Advisor, Liz Sherwood-Randall, on the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. His administration will continue to work with federal, state, and local officials as we receive more information.’

At a press conference on Wednesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland said he was devastated for the families affected by the tragedy and offered federal support to the local community.

“I want to address the tragic shooting that occurred this morning at a high school in Winder, Georgia. We are still gathering information, but the FBI and ATF are on the ground and working with partners at the state, local and federal levels,” said AG Garland. “The Department of Justice stands ready to provide any resources or support the Winder community may need in the coming days,”
