The deadly drug deal shooting happened near an east Las Vegas park filled with children

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An illegal black market marijuana sale in east Las Vegas ended in a deadly shooting next to a park full of children.

Las Vegas police said the shooting happened next to Lewis Family Park around 4:22 p.m

Lt. Jason Johansson said southeast area command responded to reports of a shooting at Tree Line and Grass Meadows. When officers arrived, they found a man shot in the driver’s seat of a car.

An illegal black market marijuana sale in east Las Vegas ended in a deadly shooting next to a park full of children.

Emergency medical services responded and transported him to Sunrise Hospital, where he later died.

As police cordoned off the scene, they approached a citizen who said two men wearing dark clothing and balaclavas ran past and into an apartment during the shooting.

Officers formed an action team and contacted the residents in the apartment. Two men went outside and the police arrested them both.

Homicide detectives believe the shooting occurred during a dispute or robbery over an illegal black market marijuana sale.

Johansson says he is “reasonably confident” that the two suspects in custody are directly linked to the shooting.

Police are executing a search warrant on the vehicle involved.

Johansson says the police “dodged a bullet” in this shooting because there were many children in the park.

He also thinks there could be many witnesses who saw the shooting.
