Sunny skies and breezes will accompany the record-breaking heat in Las Vegas

The pleasant temperatures continue and more weather records will be broken on Friday.

FRIDAY: We will see sunny skies all day and the wind will increase this afternoon. High temperatures will reach about 102 degrees in Las Vegas, which would break the daily record of 100 degrees set in 1947. By reaching the triple digits today, Las Vegas will also tie the record for the last 100 degrees. Also a setback in 1947.

Winds will increase this afternoon and evening from the southwest at 5-25 km/h with gusts around 40 km/h. Stronger winds are expected in northern and central Nevada.

Air quality is rated as ‘good’ to ‘moderate’ this morning for areas of haze, mainly in the eastern valley. Regional wildfires continue to burn in the West, with the most concentrated areas of smoke in Arizona and Southern California, where fires continue to burn.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Skies will be mostly clear tonight, with low temperatures in the valley dropping to around 76 degrees overnight. The wind will be from the northwest up to 10 km/h.

EXTENDED FORECAST: Unseasonably warm October weather will continue this weekend with record-breaking daily highs in Las Vegas likely on Saturday and Sunday. High pressure over the southwest will keep conditions dry and unseasonably warm, with daytime highs 10-15 degrees above normal until early next week. An Excessive Heat Warning will also be in effect for parts of the Southwest until 8 p.m. Sunday for highs of 107-110 degrees along the Colorado River (Lake Mead to Laughlin) and temperatures of 110-113 in Death Valley.

Low pressure moving into next week will help bring daytime highs back into the double digits as our next weather maker drops south. After the seven-day period, low highs will remain in the low to mid 90s Friday through Sunday.
