Arne Slot has admitted he will ‘probably never achieve perfection’ as Liverpool manager, but he has clear areas in the team he wants to improve.

The Dutchman has made an excellent start to life as Liverpool boss since taking over from Jurgen Klopp. He won eight of his first nine games in all competitions.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League and have won each of their first two Champions League games this season, while they also beat West Ham 5-1 in the third round of the EFL Cup.

But even after beating Serie A team Bologna 2-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, Slot looked at where he could improve his side to maintain the silverware challenge throughout the season.

“We can improve, we have to improve, that’s clear, but there are also a lot of positives to take from tonight and from the other games as well,” Slot said (via Liverpool’s official website).

“There was a period in the game where we were out of control and they threatened us more than I would like to see, but again, this is normal. I watched a lot of games yesterday, I watched some games before we played, in the Champions League (and) it’s never the case that there’s only one team playing – there’s always two teams playing.

“I think we had more possession for most parts of the game, but they threatened us, especially in the latter stages of the first half a few times.”

Although he will always try to improve his team, Slot is well aware that perfection is an unattainable fallacy, often used by people unwilling to take risks.

Furthermore, Liverpool’s defeat to Forest at Anfield earlier this season was a good reminder of how quickly things can go wrong in football, no matter how well things seem to be going.

“The thing is, you’ll probably never achieve perfection,” Slot admitted. “You always strive for perfection, but you never achieve it.”
