According to the report, Davante Adams requested a trade earlier than initially reported

Was Davante Adams’ trade request a response to Antonio Pierce ‘liking’ a tweet about the Raiders trading him?

Pierce made headlines on Monday with his social media activity and it wasn’t until Tuesday that it was reported that Adams had requested a trade. So the timeline might suggest that Adams reacted to the news on Monday.

But that wasn’t necessarily the order in which the situation played out between Adams and the Raiders. According to an NFL Network report, Adams requested the trade earlier than advertised.

“Adams, one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers, informed the Raiders on Monday that he would prefer to be traded,” insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo said.

That means it’s possible that Pierce “liked” a post about the Adams trade after Adams requested the trade. It’s also possible that Adams requested a trade immediately after the news about Pierce.

Regardless of the timeline, the Raiders and Adams are preparing to go in different directions and there’s a chance a trade could happen much sooner rather than later. Now that everyone knows that the parties are open to divorce, it may be in the best interest of everyone involved not to drag out the process.

It’s been a dramatic 24 hours, but the reality is that the situation between Adams and the Raiders has been moving in this direction for some time. Adams reportedly approached the team about a trade last year, and there’s no reason to believe he’ll be any happier a year later.

For now, the Jets and Commanders are the teams that make the most sense to trade for Adams, and it will be interesting to see if Adams will use the leverage of his contract to push his way to where he wants to go.

No team will trade away his massive contract if they aren’t confident he’ll show up and play right away.
