Iran fires multiple missile strikes at Israel

Iran launched dozens of missiles against Israel on Tuesday, a barrage of attacks that the country says is a response to the deaths of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) warned civilians to take shelter in place and follow instructions from the Home Front Command, while the Jewish State’s Iron Dome anti-missile defense system works to intercept incoming missiles.

“During the defense we conducted quite a few interceptions,” IDF spokesman Admiral Daniel Hagari said after the attack was over. “There are some consequences in the center and areas in the south of the country.”

Hagari said that while Israel is still assessing the Iranian attack, officials “are not aware of the casualties.”

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said this latest barrage of rockets is in retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, Lebanon, in an Israeli airstrike late last week and the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July, Fox said. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned in a statement carried by Iranian state media that if Israel responds to the barrage of rockets, “the country will face crushing attacks.”

A senior White House official told Fox News earlier Tuesday morning that Iran was preparing to “immediately” launch a ballistic missile attack on Israel. The move comes after weeks of Israeli attacks on Tehran’s allies in the region.

“The United States has indications that Iran is preparing to launch an early ballistic missile attack on Israel,” the official said. “We actively support defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack. A direct military attack by Iran on Israel will have serious consequences for Iran.”

Another US official told Fox News that Iran could launch its attack as early as Tuesday afternoon, saying the US has seen additional missile movements in Iran in preparation for the now “imminent” attack.

The official added that Iran’s attack could resemble the one it launched in April against Israel, which had more than 300 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones.

While the U.S. official did not know what the exact scope or scale will be, the official said Iran has been in a state of readiness to launch an attack on Israel within 12 to 24 hours since early August, following the assassination of the Hamas leader on July 31. Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Iran already launched an unprecedented direct attack on Israel in April, although the regime’s allies, Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, have exchanged attacks with Israel since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7.

On Tuesday, Israel began a limited ground invasion of southern Lebanon against Hezbollah targets.

“The blood of the martyr will not remain unavenged,” Khamenei said after Nasrallah was killed by an Israeli airstrike late last week in Beirut, Lebanon, according to Reuters.

Three US Navy destroyers are positioned in the Mediterranean, an aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Oman and fighter jets are spread throughout the region to assist Israel in the event of an attack from Iran. They are all capable of shooting down incoming missiles.
