PlayStation Network is broken, meaning players can no longer get online.

The system has been disabled for hours. Due to the online nature of today’s consoles, this may mean that players cannot open games or apps or play with others online.

The service status page on the PlayStation website stated that it affected all consoles: the PS5 and PS4, as well as the PS3 and PS Vita.

“You may be having trouble launching games, apps, or network functions,” reads the latest update on that page.

“We are doing our best to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

Sony gave no indication when the services will be restored. At the time of publication, they had been offline for more than six hours.

The problems arose shortly after PlayStation released an update that added large advertisements to people’s home screens. Some players feared it was a move to add more marketing to the console, but Sony said the changes were due to a bug.

“A technical error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has now been resolved,” the official PlayStation account said late on Monday. “No changes have been made to the way gaming news is displayed on PS5.”

It also came shortly after the release of EA FC 25, one of the biggest PlayStation games of the year.
