Edwin Díaz wanted the ball.

The New York Mets closer entered Monday’s game in the eighth inning with the Mets leading 6-3, but gave up four runs. After Francisco Lindor hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth, Díaz pushed to stay in the game despite manager Carlos Mendoza trying to take him out.

“I’m going back out. I don’t care what you say, I’m going back out,” Díaz told Mendoza, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic. “I got this st.”
