A nationwide Verizon service outage is affecting some Milwaukee customers

The extent of the outage in Milwaukee is still unknown, but the outage is widespread in Chicago and other cities.

Some Verizon customers in Milwaukee have been caught in a widespread service outage affecting more than 100,000 people in multiple states.

Verizon said the company is “aware of an issue impacting service for some customers.”

“Our technicians are engaged and we are working quickly to resolve the issue,” spokesperson Ilya Hemlin told USA TODAY on Monday.

The extent of the outage in Milwaukee and elsewhere in Wisconsin is still uncertain. According to the website Downdetector, some of the cities with the most reports of service issues were Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix, Omaha and Washington DC.

The Federal Communications Commission said Monday afternoon that it was working to determine the cause and extent of the disruptions.

Officials from T-Mobile and AT&T said their respective networks are working, CNET reported, and that any problems their users may experience could be the result of trying to connect to a Verizon user without working service.
