Bengals face daunting playoff history after 0-3 start to 2024 season

History has not favored NFL teams that start 0-3, especially in this century.

The 2018 Texans are the only team to make the playoffs in the 2000s and beyond after starting 0-3 (11-5 finish, AFC South Champions). All told, five other teams have made it:

That list makes it clear that no 0-3 start has ever ended in a Super Bowl. That’s Cincinnati’s only sign of success this season, in the final year of financial flexibility during the Joe Burrow era.

Unfortunately, those goals are now as far away as they can be. The climb back must begin with a win against Carolina this Sunday. Those 1992 Chargers are the only team to make the playoffs after starting 0-4.
