To put it bluntly, Travis Kelce‘s performances in the first two games of the season left much to be desired, and Stephen A. Smith don’t let it pass unnoticed.

While the Kansas City Chiefs won their first two games of the NFL season, Travis managed just four catches for a total of 39 receiving yards, earning him criticism from Stephen A. Smith.

According to Essential sportsThe sports analyst spoke out after Travis’ second disappointing performance, claiming, “We saw more Taylor Swift yesterday afternoon and any other applicable time than Travis Kelce.”

“That shouldn’t have happened yesterday,” Smith added. “We should have seen more Travis Kelce yesterday than we saw her. That’s not happening. You’ve got to get it going, bro. You’ve got 39 receiving yards in the first two games. Come on, it’s time.”

“Football season is here. The honeymoon is over. Let’s take care of our business,” Smith continued on ESPN’s “First Take.”

Although he now criticizes the NFL player for his poor performances, he has consistently supported Taylor and Travis’ relationship, especially despite the hatred from sports fans.

“He’s a two-time Super Bowl champion, he’s on the cusp of potentially being a three-time Super Bowl champion,” the sports analyst said of Travis Kelce last year. “He’s widely recognized as one of the best tight ends in the history of football.”

“He’s a handsome guy, he’s got style, he’s got flair,” he continued. “He’s got skills. He’s got a future in (the media) when he retires from football (…) he’s the total package.”

Of course, he couldn’t discuss Travis’s looks without also bringing up Taylor Swift’s. He admitted, “Taylor Swift is a beautiful woman, she’s an incredible artist. I took my daughters to her concert.”

After a slow start to the season, Kansas City Chiefs star forward Travis Kelce has caught just three passes for 39 yards and no touchdowns through the first two games.

At 34, Travis emphasized that he no longer focuses solely on his individual stats.

“I stopped worrying about the stats four or five years ago,” he said last week on his “New Heights” podcast. “I just went out there and started playing freely and playing for my guys. I think that’s a better mentality. You think about it more play-by-play and what your job is on that particular play.”

During the game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 15, he managed to catch just one pass for five yards, marking the first time since September 2018 that he had fewer than three passes in a game.

“For whatever reason, the last two games, it hasn’t gone my way,” he told his brother Jason Kelce on their podcast. “That’s football, man. I’m not going to sit here and get frustrated. I used to get really mad and almost lose my cool because I didn’t have that success, knowing that I demanded that of myself.”

He added: “I just like to play the game with such a high level of responsibility that it’s hard for me to deal with the fact that I’m mediocre or have stats that reflect that.”

Despite Travis’ disappointing performance, the Chiefs have started the season 2-0, a success he attributes to the strong performances of his teammates on defense.

“I think the defense is playing their asses off,” Travis said enthusiastically. “Getting fouls, finding a way to make it hard for the opponents. They’re really making it hard for them to throw the ball downfield with the kind of pressure we’re getting and how good our coverage is right now.”

He added: “We’ve got to match that responsibility on the offensive end to really become another Super Bowl-caliber team. I put that on myself. I think it starts with the leadership. I think it starts with making sure you go in with the right mindset.”

The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, September 22.
