Final standings in college football

Vanderbilt football played an even game with Missouri the entire game.

The Commodores (2-1) played bend but don’t break the entire game with the Tigers (3-0) on defense. Missouri missed three field goals, leaving the game tied at the end of the fourth quarter.

Brock Taylor missed a potential 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, but Vanderbilt was stopped and got the ball back. Ultimately, the team decided to go to overtime because the ball was pinned deep in their own territory.

The Commodores and Tigers both scored touchdowns on their first possession of overtime, sending the game to double overtime.

Missouri made a field goal at the start of double overtime, but Taylor missed his field goal in Vanderbilt’s half of double overtime, giving the Tigers a 30-27 win.

Missouri (3-0) is one of four opponents ranked in the top 10 of the US LBM Coaches Poll that Vanderbilt will face this season. However, the Tigers are the only opponent playing away games, as Alabama, Texas and Tennessee are all home games.

The Commodores have lost 27 straight games against AP top 10 opponents, last winning against then-No. 6 South Carolina in 2007, through Saturday.

Vanderbilt vs Missouri score updates

Overtime

Missouri was first in double overtime, but its drive stalled. The Tigers took the lead with a field goal by Craig, ending a two-game losing streak.

Missouri scored a touchdown on a single play of its own possession, sending the game to double overtime.

Fullback Gabe Fisher, who has never recorded a stat line in his college career, scored the touchdown on a throw from Pavia early in overtime.

Fourth quarter

After Missouri missed two field goals in the fourth quarter, Vanderbilt came to a halt and missed Taylor from 50 yards out.

Craig missed his third field goal of the game, one from 46 yards, after Vanderbilt was again in the red zone.

Missouri again got within 25 yards of Vanderbilt, but Randon Fontenette and Langston Patterson combined to stop the ball on third down and Craig missed his second field goal of the day from 40 yards.

Third quarter

Vanderbilt tied the score in the third quarter with a touchdown run by AJ Newberry, which was ruled standing.

Vanderbilt went three-and-out on its first possession of the second half, then gave up the Tigers’ longest play of the season, a 64-yard rush by Nate Noel, on the ensuing possession. Carroll scored one play later.

After Vanderbilt made a long field goal at the end of the first half, Missouri responded with a 54-yarder of its own on the opening drive of the second half.

Second quarter

Khordae Sydnor tackled Missouri quarterback Brady Cook on fourth down with eight seconds left in the second quarter. A quick completion later, Vanderbilt set up Taylor for the 57-yard field goal to take the lead into halftime.

After Missouri started the drive in Vanderbilt territory, it was again stuck in the red zone when Vanderbilt forced a field goal to tie the score.

After Randon Fontenette suffered a tackle for loss on third down in the red zone, Missouri scored a field goal off the post in front of an empty red zone.

Vanderbilt drove down the field, but the drive stalled at the 10-yard line after a sack by Pavia, forcing the Commodores to settle for a field goal.

First quarter

After a drive in which Missouri had no trouble moving the ball, Cook found top receiver Luther Burden for the 20-yard touchdown pass.

Diego Pavia escaped the pressure and took a rare shot from long range, finding an open Joseph McVay running toward the end zone. It was the first collegiate catch for the true freshman McVay, who had not played a game before Saturday.
