Jaime Munguia vs. Erik Bazinyan Results: Winner, Highlights, Reaction

Jaime Munguia is back with a vengeance. Four months after the only loss of his professional career to Canelo Alvarez, Munguia returned to the ring to score a dramatic 10th-round KO victory over Erik Bazinyan on Friday night at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

Munguia looked as tough as ever, throwing bombs to put Bazinyan away in the 10th frame. Before the knockout blow landed, Munguia’s attack on Bazinyan’s body was a major factor.

He broke Bazinyan down and then delivered a devastating blow that sent Munguia’s opponent into the ropes, where he would end up shortly afterward.

Here’s a look at Munguia’s KO victory.

After the loss to Canelo, Munguia is back on track and the last five fights of his career look strong from start to finish.

What’s next for Jaime Munguia?

Munguia should have some impressive options. Although he lost to Canelo, most would tell you he made a good impression in that fight. With this exciting win over Bazinyan, Munguia now has some momentum.

After the fight, Munguia spoke about possible showdowns with other former Canelo opponents such as Caleb Plant and Edgar Berlanga. Both men faced Canelo and lost to him, as did Munguia.

There would be interest in a fight between Berlanga and Munguia and maybe even a showdown with Plant.

One has to wonder if Munguia would ever consider fighting David Benavidez, who has been unsuccessfully pursuing a fight with Canelo for over a year.

If Munguia were to go on to win that fight, it would mean a lot to his brand and further cement his place in the hearts of loyal Mexican boxing fans.

Bazinyan has nothing to hang his head about. He made Munguia work for the KO and he had his moments with a top fighter.

Regardless, Munguia’s win took his record to 44-1 with 35 KOs, while Bazinyan moved to 32-1-1 with 23 KOs.
