After playing the worst team in the National League, the Dodgers open their final home game of the regular season by taking on the second worst NL team. The Rockies come to Dodger Stadium, the first of back-to-back weekend games between opposite sides of the NL West.

Colorado has won just three away series this season, with Denver going 3-21-1 in series this year. They’ve been blown out seven times in 2024. Their 23-55 away record this year is second-worst, trailing only the dismal White Sox. But this is nothing new for the Rockies, who were 22-59 away in 2023.

Last year marked the Rockies’ first 100-loss season in franchise history, going 59-103. This year, they’ll need to win at least four of their final nine games to avoid another campaign of triple-digit losses. The Dodgers will be their opponent for six of those games, with a series against the Cardinals at Coors Field in between.

Colorado is coming off a run of home games, winning two of three against the Cubs — something the Dodgers couldn’t do at home last week — and the Diamondbacks, who currently hold a wild-card position in the National League. In total, the Rockies come to Los Angeles having won eight of their last 13 games.

The Dodgers will start Walker Buehler and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the final two games against the Rockies, with five days of rest on Saturday and Sunday. Yamamoto is scheduled to play on at least five days’ rest in the postseason.

Friday may be the Dodgers’ busiest pitching season of the season: TBA. Only four starting pitchers are active on the team’s 14-man pitching staff after Bobby Miller was waived on Wednesday. Dave Roberts told reporters in Miami on Thursday that the team would likely call up another pitcher for coverage on Friday, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

Justin Wrobleski was waived on Sept. 8 and can’t return until Monday unless he replaces an injured player. The only other pitcher left on the 40-man roster with any length is Ben Casparius, who was scheduled to rest four days Friday. He last pitched Sunday, throwing 68 pitches in three-plus innings for Oklahoma City in a piggyback effort with Tony Gonsolin, who is rehabbing at Triple-A.

Gonsolin could very well end up pitching for the Dodgers next weekBut as for this weekend’s game against the Rockies, pitching plans for Friday have yet to be determined.
