Krispy Kreme has decided to make Friday the 13th a lucky day.

The donut chain announced a deal valid only on Friday, September 13, where customers can purchase a dozen Original Glazed donuts for just 13 cents.

To get the deal, people must purchase a full-price box of donuts or a 16-pack of minis and use the promo code “13” when ordering in-store or online through the app or website. There is a limit of one 13-cent box of donuts per customer.

The list of participating Krispy Kreme stores can be found on the chain’s website.

The store’s offer is called “Lucky Friday” amid the superstition that 13 is an unlucky number and that Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky date. Various reasons have emerged over the years as to why the date is considered a bad omen.

The superstition surrounding Friday the 13th has its origins in the Last Supper, which was attended by 13 people – Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples – on Maundy Thursday, the evening before his crucifixion by Roman soldiers on Good Friday.

The number 13 is therefore associated with Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of Christ, and is considered imperfect compared to 12, which represents the number of months in a year. Most years have two Friday the 13ths – and sometimes three.

Wendy’s has also offered a deal to celebrate this rare occasion. Rewards members can get a free order of Hot & Crispy Fries in any size with any in-app purchase.

They can also score a small Frosty treat for $1 through the end of the month, and the offer is repeatable. Customers can choose from the chain’s current Frosty flavors: the old favorite chocolate Frosty and the returning favorite vanilla Frosty, which is officially back on menus at Wendy’s nationwide.

Krispy Kreme is also currently offering a collaboration with Barbie in honor of the doll’s 65th anniversary, offering a limited menu that debuted earlier this month on September 3.

There are four donuts in the Barbie-inspired collection: Barbie Pink, Malibu Dream Party, Barbie Berries n’ Kreme, and Barbie Sweet 65th. These donuts are all an ode to the toy.

The Barbie Berries n’ Kreme donut features an unglazed donut filled with strawberry cream, dipped in white icing, drizzled with purple and pink buttercream, and topped with a Barbie logo heart.

The Barbie Sweet 65th is a glazed donut with chocolate icing and covered in sprinkles in classic Barbie colors, including shades of pink and a blue reminiscent of the Malibu sky.

The Malibu Dream Party donut is unglazed and filled with cake batter cream, dipped in Malibu blue icing and glitter graham sand, and decorated with a white cloud and the doll’s Dreamhouse.

And the Barbie Pink is a glazed donut with pink icing, sprinkled with glittery pink sugar and decorated with Barbie sunglasses.
