Three major forest fires fires are burning across Southern California, affecting large areas and prompting evacuations. The blazes, fueled by dry conditions and high winds, are threatening homes and other structures in multiple counties, displacing thousands of residents. Together, the Bridge Fire, Line Fire and Airport Fire have burned tens of thousands of acres and continue to pose a challenge to firefighters.

“These three simultaneous fires are putting a huge strain on firefighter resources,” said Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone as his department tried to contain the bridge fire. “We are asking for resources from Northern California and neighboring states.”

The Bridge Fire, burning near Glendora in the San Gabriel Mountains, has spread to more than 47,904 acres, according to Cal Fire. Crews are battling difficult terrain as they work to protect homes and contain the blaze, which has surrounding communities under mandatory evacuation. Interactive map

The Line Fire, located in San Bernardino County, has quickly grown to just under 34,659 acres. With only 14% containment, firefighters are trying to contain the blaze while dealing with gusty winds and extremely dry vegetation. Evacuation orders remain in effect for several neighborhoods. This fire, which started in Trabuco Canyon in Orange County, has grown to 22,376 acres. Evacuation warnings have been issued for nearby areas as firefighters work to prevent further spread. Interactive map
