Former Patriot ejected from Week 1 game after fight

Jack Jones finds himself in another tumultuous situation up front. This time, the Raiders cornerback was ejected from Las Vegas’ season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday.

With less than four minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Chargers leading by 12 points, a fight broke out between LA wide receiver Josh Palmer and Jones after a failed two-point conversion attempt. Although other players joined in the fight, only Jones and Palmer were ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike penalties after coaches and officials regained control of the situation. Jones did not speak to the media after the game. Palmer said there was “no bad blood” between him and Jones, according to ESPN’s Kris Rhim.

“It’s nothing personal. There’s no bad blood,” Palmer said, per Rhim. “UFC guys beat each other up for a living, and then they go back and shake hands. Especially in football, that’s not like that at all. But it’s not personal at all. We’re just doing our job as hard as we can. We’re not trying to hurt anybody.”

Palmer had two catches for 15 yards in the Chargers’ 22-10 win over the Raiders. Jones had four tackles for the Raiders in the loss. Jones is in his first full season with Las Vegas after being claimed off waivers last November after being released by the Patriots.

Jones had 37 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games with the Patriots and Raiders last season. He played in 18 games for New England, totaling 42 tackles and two interceptions.

The AFC West teams will play each other again in Week 18 at Allegiant Stadium.
