CINCINNATI — The Bengals suffered a surprise loss to the Patriots on Sunday in a game that saw head coach Zac Taylor reduced to tackling and turnovers. It was yet another sloppy, inconsistent showing from his team to open the season.

It was the most improbable loss in the NFL’s season opener since 2018.

“I just said two things: tackle and win the turnover battle,” Taylor said of the struggles, adding that Cincinnati has enough games left to get the ship back on course.

Cincinnati posted 10 points and just 224 total yards amid a handicapped day by the entire offense. Meanwhile, the defense gave up another 170 rushing yards, picking up right where they left off last season, with two turnovers in between.

“The good thing is we’ve got 16 games left, so you know, starting 0-1 is definitely not a hole we wanted to be in. But I feel good about how this team is going to bounce back,” Taylor said after the loss.
