Watch Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore and Jon Hamm in the ‘Landman’ Trailer

Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore and Jon Hamm enter the Sheridan world.

The three actors are the main acts Farmerthe latest Paramount+ drama from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, who released the first trailer on Thursday.

Set in the proverbial boom towns of West Texas, the series is described as “a contemporary tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs… an above/below tale of rough diamonds and wildcat billionaires who fuel economic growth so big it’s changing our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.”

Thornton, who previously worked with Sheridan on 1883plays Tommy Norris and opens the trailer with a very serious voiceover: “The oil and gas industry is making $3 billion a day in pure profit, and it’s only going up.”

The trailer features dazzling cinematography that captures the sheer scale of the industry: a pickup truck driving through an impossibly large oil field, a massive drilling rig, and Hamm and Moore as Monty and Cami Miller at a fancy black-tie event.

“Before any of that money is made, you’ve got to secure the land and manage the people,” says Thornton’s Tommy, explaining how he fits into the puzzle. “That’s my job. The first part is pretty simple — the second part can get you killed.”

As drillers huddle around the drill, it suddenly explodes and the sound cuts out. One character stumbles as his clothes catch fire, while another is covered in soot. “The world has already convinced itself that you’re bad and I’m bad,” Hamm’s Monty says during a high-intensity meeting, “because you give them the only thing they come into contact with every day.”

“Getting oil out of the ground is the most dangerous job in the world,” Thornton says as the trailer juxtaposes the laid-back, glamorous lifestyles of the wealthy characters with the thankless, backbreaking work of the boots on the ground doing their jobs. “We don’t do it because we love it. We do it because we’re out of options.”

From that point on, guest star Michael Peña, played by Armando, claims, “Everyone’s whole family works in the fields,” and Moore’s Cami threatens with authority, “Roll the dice one last time.” Then we see brief scenes of disturbing violence and thrilling danger: one character shoots another character in the head with a gun, a truck explodes, Tommy whips an assailant, Monty angrily throws his cell phone, and someone falls off the rig.

“Are you going to stick with beer, or do you want something stronger?” a bartender asks Tommy. “I’m going to stop drinking — I’m going to stick with beer,” he replies.

“Welcome to the oil industry,” Thornton says at the end of the trailer.
