The show, based on the novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, follows a formula that will be familiar to many and is even, remarkably, directed by The undo director Susanne Bier And contains alum of both The undo And The White Lotus(!). Starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber as the matriarch and patriarch of the Winburys, an elite family of old WASPs on Nantucket, The perfect couple sees their family crumble when someone dies the night before their son Benji’s (Billy Howle) wedding. The wedding was already strained among the Winburys, particularly famed author Greer Garrison Winbury (Kidman) who disapproved of her son tying the knot with working-class zoologist Amelia (Eve Hewson). So when Amelia’s best friend and bridesmaid Merritt (Meghann Fahy) is found dead floating along the shoreline outside the Winbury estate known as Summerland, more melodrama ensues.

While Nantucket police immediately suspect foul play in Merritt’s death and begin questioning people close to the Winburys, the question of who killed Merritt becomes the central mystery of The perfect couple. At the end of the six-episode miniseries created by Jenna Lamia, the investigation into her death is solved, but not without a few twists being revealed.
