TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Temperatures will continue to climb between today and tomorrow, with highs in the upper 80s and even near 90 degrees for some areas tomorrow and Thursday. A cold front Thursday night will bring a slight chance for showers/storms, but it will also bring another cooldown to close out the work week for a nice weekend.

Take action:

1. Enjoy the beautiful week ahead! Minimal hazards are expected, although you may need/want a light jacket or sweater in the morning hours.
2. There is a slight chance of showers and storms on Thursday afternoon/evening. At the moment the chance is small, as the rain is sporadic. If you are going to the Chiefs game, this is being closely monitored. At the moment lightning is the biggest danger, and there is little chance of severe weather.

The weather pattern for the next 8 days sees minimal danger and mainly dry conditions. However, the best chance of rain is Thursday afternoon through to Thursday evening. There will be many areas that remain dry, but for those areas that do get rain you should keep an eye on the risk of locally heavy rainfall, with 0.10″-0.25″ not being ruled out. We may fine-tune the forecast over the next few days, but prepare for this setup to be a ‘watch the radar’ type of day.

This afternoon: Sunny. Highs in the low-mid 80s. Winds SE 5-10 mph.

This evening: Clear. Lows around 50 degrees. Winds calm.

Tomorrow: Sunny. Highs in the mid to upper 80s. Winds S 5-10 mph.

Similar temperatures are expected on Thursday, but it will also depend on cloud cover, the timing of the cold front and any rain that may develop in the afternoon. In short, it will be mild again before the cooler weather arrives on Friday.

Friday through the weekend will be dry and sunny with highs around 21 degrees (possibly even low 21 degrees), especially on Saturday. Otherwise it will usually be low 27 degrees.

There is uncertainty about how warm it will be next working week. Currently, temperatures are around 27 degrees again, but next week temperatures around 32 degrees and possible maximums of almost 38 degrees cannot be ruled out. So don’t be surprised if the forecast changes (making the forecast warmer).
