GAME NOTES

  • The Rams are entering their third year under head coach Jay Norvell who was named the program’s 24th head coach on December 6, 2021. Norvell led his former program, Nevada, to Sonny Lubick Field in the 2021 finale on November 27, and returned to Fort Collins nine days later as the Rams’ new head coach.
  • Colorado State is seeking its first bowl game since 2017, and the first under Norvell. In his five years in Reno (2017-21), Norvell compiled four straight seasons of seven or more wins and led the Wolf Pack to four bowl games.
  • The last time Colorado State defeated all three of its rivals (Colorado, Wyoming and Air Force) in the same season was 2002, the year the Rams won their last conference championship.
  • Colorado State’s offense features one of the most productive weapons in all of college football, the wide receiver Tory Horton. After collecting 96 catches for 1,136 yards and eight touchdowns, Horton enters the year as a preseason All-American according to Phil Steele (2nd team), Athlon (3rd team) and other media outlets. Horton also holds a 91 overall rating in EA Sports’ College Football 25 and is the game’s fifth-best receiver.
  • The Rams will play seven games at home for the first time in program history in 2024, highlighted by a pair of rival games in the Rocky Mountain Showdown against Colorado (Sept. 14) and The Border War against Wyoming (Nov. 15). The last time both rivals were in Fort Collins in the same season was 1996.
