The Labor Day weekend forecast shows temperatures closer to normal in the Milwaukee area. While a few storms are forecast for Thursday night, the rest of the weekend is expected to be calm.

Milwaukee residents were hit with a combination of near-record high temperatures and severe thunderstorms this week, but meteorologists say relief could come this weekend.

To start off the week, Milwaukee recorded highs of 94 degrees, with heat indices that felt closer to 100 degrees. In addition to the high temperatures in the area, there was also high humidity in the area, making it a great mix for thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the high on Wednesday is expected to be just 73 degrees Fahrenheit in the city of Milwaukee and 79 degrees Fahrenheit in other areas outside the city.

Wednesday’s temperature is close to the late August average high of 26 degrees Celsius.

Nake Falkinham, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, described the conditions over the past few days.

“All that heat and humidity in the area prepared the area for severe weather,” he said.

Storms cause damage and accidents in Milwaukee

According to the National Weather Service, Milwaukee received about 0.14 inches of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Winds in the area knocked branches onto power lines, causing power outages amid high temperatures.

In one place the wind was so strong that a tree fell onto the road and nearly hit a cyclist.

In the video you see how the wind swings trees back and forth until one falls onto the road, pulling down an electricity cable with it.

A cyclist on the road cannot stop in time and falls into the middle of the fallen wood.

A pedestrian walking on the sidewalk comes to the cyclist’s aid.

Temperatures and storms will calm down towards the end of the week

Towards the end of the week and into Labor Day weekend, temperatures and weather conditions are expected to become less extreme.

The National Weather Service predicts that temperatures will remain mild for the rest of the week, with highs between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.

There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms on the night of Thursday to Friday.

Mostly clear and dry weather is also expected for the Labor Day weekend, with a maximum temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Labor Day itself is expected to be sunny and rainless, with a cool high of around 70 degrees.
