Ivan Toney: Brentford striker’s future ‘uncertain’ – Thomas Frank

Ivan Toney’s future at Brentford remains uncertain but he could be in the side against Liverpool on Sunday, according to Bees manager Thomas Frank.

The 28-year-old striker was absent from Brentford’s opening Premier League match against Crystal Palace due to transfer links to the Saudi Pro League and several English clubs.

BBC Sport has learned that Brentford have rejected a £35million bid for Toney from Saudi club Al-Ahli.

“Ivan trained all week. Trained with a good attitude in every aspect. He could compete, he couldn’t compete,” Frank said.

“He could be here after the 30th (of August) and he could not be here. Basically everything is up in the air.

“I’ve been saying all along that I’m very happy when he’s here. And when he’s not here, I’m happy on his behalf.”

Toney joined Brentford from Peterborough in 2020 and has scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances for the Bees in the 2022-23 season.

He was part of the England squad that reached the final of the European Championship this summer, despite missing most of the season due to an eight-month ban for breaching the Football Association’s betting rules.

Frank declined to provide an update on Toney’s negotiations with clubs.
