Liverpool set to land Man Utd target Jarrad Branthwaite in shock £70m move from arch-rivals Everton

LIVERPOOL want to sign Jarrad Branthwaite (valued at £70m) from rivals Everton.

SunSport has learned the Reds will offer £63million plus an additional £7million to bring the centre-back to Stanley Park.

Branthwaite, who has been attracting interest from Manchester United in the summer, is open to a move and would like to play for a bigger club.

He has a contract until 2027 and earns £60,000-a-week, but knows his salary would be tripled if he moved to Anfield.

Liverpool are growing increasingly confident that a deal can be struck with Arne Slot, who is reportedly a great admirer of the rising England star.

According to the bookmakers, the chances of Kop winning this transfer period against the 22-year-old are slim.

The last player sold by Everton to their local rivals was Abel Xavier for £800,000 in 2002.

Toffees manager Sean Dyche has admitted he would be prepared to sell any player for the right price.

Despite making a £31million profit this summer, Dyche says there is “not much room” to bring in more players due to the injury crisis which has left him with just 14 fit first-team players.

United have twice failed in bids for Carlisle-born Branthwaite – their last offer was £50m – but they still want him.

Kop manager Slot is prepared to sell Joe Gomez – Newcastle failed in a £45m bid at the start of the transfer window and Chelsea are interested.

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, 23, is set to join Anfield for £30million, but is likely to be loaned out straight away.

On Thursday, 22-year-old Dutch centre-back Sepp van den Berg left for Brentford for £30million, with the Bees paying a £25million deposit.

Midfielder Bobby Clark (19) also signed for Red Bull Salzburg for £10 million. Red Bull Salzburg is coached by former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders.

But Liverpool still have a week this summer to complete the deal, with the transfer window closing next Friday, August 30.

The Arne Slot era got off to a perfect start in the Premier League this season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
