Paris 2024 Olympics: India’s Medal and Winners List

A total of 117 Indian athletes, including five reserves, are gunning for medals and sporting immortality at the Paris 2024 Olympic Gameswhich runs from July 26 to August 11.

There will be Indian interest in a total of 69 medal events across 16 sports – archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis and tennis – at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Neeraj Choprawho made history in Tokyo 2020 by winning gold in the men’s javelin throw, is part of the 29-member Indian athletics contingent heading to France and will look to contribute to the Indian Paris 2024 Olympic Games medal table.

Badminton champion PV Sindhu, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain and several members of the Indian men’s hockey team led by Harmanpreet Singh are the other returning Olympic medallists in India’s contingent for Paris 2024.

Avinash Sable, Antim Panghal, Rohan Bopanna, Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairak Rankireddy, Vinesh Phogat and Aman Sehrawat are also keen to contribute to India’s medal haul at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Manu Bhaker won India’s first medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She bagged a bronze medal and became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic shooting medal. She then created history by becoming the first Indian to win two medals at a single Olympics after winning a mixed team 10m air pistol bronze with Sarabjot Singh.

In total, India has won 37 medals at the Olympics so far. Interestingly, it was Norman Pritchard’s double silver medal that opened India’s account in Paris 1900.

KD Jadhav, with a bronze in wrestling at Helsinki 1952, was the first individual athlete from independent India to make it to the list of Olympic medal winners. Weightlifter Karnam Malleswari became the first woman to win an Olympic medal at Sydney 2000.

Rifle shooter Abhinav Bindra became the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in an individual event at the 2008 Beijing Games. He was the only one to do so for more than a decade, before Neeraj claimed victory in the javelin throw in Tokyo in 2020.

Men’s hockey was the largest contributor to India’s Olympic medal tally with 12 medals, including eight gold, followed by wrestling with seven medals.

India won seven medals, including one gold, in Tokyo 2020 and hopes to improve on this tally in Paris 2024.

So far, India has won two medals, both bronze, at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
