UFC Vegas 96 Results: Bonus Winners and Highlights

Caio Borralho is in the top five middleweight boxers in the UFC next week.

He won an impressive unanimous decision over Jared Cannonier in the UFC Vegas 96 main event. The fight was a tough one. Both fighters had their moments, but Borralho had the most memorable, especially in the fifth round when he nearly stopped Cannonier. A one-two combo shook Cannonier up.

To be fair, the fight could have been stopped based on how Cannonier fell to the canvas. Veteran referee Dan Miragliota let it continue and Cannonier survived the round with grit and determination.

However, Borralho had clearly done enough to secure the win. After the fight, Borralho was asked for a call-out. He may have squandered an opportunity by calling the current champion Dricus Du Plessis.

As the likely No. 5 fighter, that’s not a crazy concept. However, since Sean Strickland has already been promised the next shot at the title, it doesn’t make sense to demand a title shot. The right callout would have been Israel Adesanya. The former champion has lost his last two fights, but is still ranked No. 3.

If Borralho gets that fight and wins, he can ask for a title shot and have a better case. As it stands, he has secured one of the bonuses of the event, as he and Cannonier won Fight of the Night for their entertaining bout.

Below you will find all the UFC Vegas 96 results and highlights of the finishes.

  • Caio Borralho def. Jared Cannonier via unanimous decision (49-45×2, 48-46)
  • Tabatha Ricci def. Angela Hill via unanimous decision (29-28×3)
  • Ryan Loder def. Robert Valentin via TKO at 1:49 of round 2

After overcoming a tough first round, Loder recovered and dominated the second round, earning a TKO victory. Loder secured the advantageous position with the crucifix, raining elbows down to force the referee to stop the fight.

Loder is the winner of the 32nd Ultimate Fighter Middleweight Championship.

Look at the finish:

  • Mairon Santos def. Kaan Ofli via KO at 1:30 of round 2

Santos looked fantastic during the match and surprised Ofli with a perfect left hook to become the TUF Season 32 Featherweight Champion.

Here you see the finish:

  • Michael Morales def. Neil Magny via TKO at 4:39 of round 1

Morales appears to be a legitimate title contender at 170 pounds. He destroyed the tough welterweight gatekeeper by TKO after flattening Magny and throwing non-stop punches.

Here is the final result:

  • Gerald Meerschaert defeats Edmen Shahbazyan via submission at 4:12 of round 2 (arm triangle)

Meerschaert had to dig deep after getting into trouble in the first round, but the veteran recovered and won by submission, giving him the most finishes in UFC middleweight history.

Here is the final result:

  • Francis Marshall defeats Dennis Buzukja via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 30-27)
  • Zachary Reese def. Jose Daniel Medina via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)

  • Jacqueline Cavalcanti def. Josiane Nunes via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Wang Cong def. Victoria Leonardo via KO at 1:02 of round 1

The flamboyant and powerful Chinese fighter impressed in her first UFC fight. Cong’s one-hitter quitter was the most memorable finish of the night, but she still didn’t collect any bonuses.
