It’s time for Texas Football to make its debut in the Southeastern Conference.

The No. 2 Texas Longhorns face the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday in their first SEC game of the year after comfortably winning all of their non-conference matchups.

Week 5 may not be much different as Mississippi State (1-3, 0-1 SEC) is coming off losses to Florida, Toledo and Arizona State. Additionally, Bulldogs starting quarterback Blake Shapen suffered a season-ending shoulder injury against the Gators. True freshman Michael Van Buren will start in his place.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was listed as questionable on Wednesday night’s injury report, leaving the door open for him to start Saturday. If he’s still recovering from his oblique strain, backup Arch Manning will get the call again after leading Texas (4-0, 0-0) to a win over the University of Louisiana-Monroe last week.

Bulldogs coach Jeff Lebby led Texas’ defensive tackle as Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator last year. He’s taken that up-tempo approach to Mississippi State, but it’s going to take a lot more than a plan to beat a Texas team that has cemented itself as one of, if not the best, teams in college football . Saturday’s game will air on SEC Network, ESPN+ and SEC Network+.
