Tampa International Airport to Suspend Operations Thursday Due to Hurricane Helene

Tampa International Airport is suspending all commercial and cargo flights as of 2 a.m. Thursday due to Hurricane Helene. The airport will remain closed to the public until storm damage can be assessed.

The airport and its partners will use the time before the suspension to prepare the airport and terminals, including securing jet bridges, ground equipment and all remaining aircraft before the storm arrives on Thursday. The three other public airports operated by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Peter O. Knight, President of Tampa and Plant City Airports will also close at 2am on Thursday.

TPA, including the main terminal and airside, is not open to the public and is not equipped to function as a shelter for persons or vehicles.

The airport expects to reopen Friday following a damage assessment that will begin as soon as it is safe to do so. TPA will closely coordinate the airport’s reopening with its partners, including the Transportation Security Administration and airlines, based on traffic safety, facility readiness and staffing. Any changes in timing will be communicated immediately.
