(WSVN) – Most school districts in South Florida remain closed as they closely monitor developments surrounding Hurricane Helene.

Miami-Dade Public Schools and Broward County Public Schools issued a joint statement Wednesday announcing that schools will remain open Thursday.

However, BCPS officials issued a statement Wednesday night saying schools in the region will be closed Thursday, following the 5 p.m. advisory about the storm’s path.

A statement from BCPS said: “This includes before and after school care, after-school activities, field trips, and evening activities and classes.”

M-DCPS officials said outdoor activities at their schools will be held indoors, while outdoor sporting events will be canceled. After-school programs will be open and evening classes will continue as normal.

The Archdiocese of Miami will also remain open on Thursday.

Earlier Wednesday, officials with the Palm Beach County School District announced that all schools and offices operated by the district will remain closed Thursday. Additionally, officials said all extracurricular activities, after-school programs, sports, school assemblies and other on-campus events have also been canceled.

Monroe County School District also announced it will close schools and school district offices on Thursday.
