    Portage Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski’s Facebook page suspended, wife says

    The wife of the Portage County sheriff, who was criticized for a recent social media post about political yard signs, says his personal Facebook page has been suspended.

    Meanwhile, Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski continues to garner national attention, as he appeared on Fox News Tuesday night.

    The sheriff’s wife, Mandy, posted on Facebook on Wednesday that her husband has not deleted his page.

    “Facebook has suspended Bruce’s page,” she wrote, followed by an angry face emoji. “He hasn’t closed it, in case you’re looking for him. We’ve had a lot of people reach out to us.”

    Zuchowski, a Republican running for re-election, has received complaints about a controversial Facebook post that critics say amounts to voter intimidation.

    What did the Portage County Sheriff say in his Facebook post?

    In the post, Zuchowski advised people to keep track of where Kamala Harris signs are in their neighborhoods so they know where to send illegal immigrants.

    “When people ask me… What’s going to happen if the Flip-Flopping, Laughing Hyena wins??” the post read. “I say… Write down all the addresses of the people who had her signs in their yards! So… when the illegal human “Grasshopper” (who she supports!) needs places to live… We’ll have all the addresses of their (sic) new families… who supported their arrival!”

    The sheriff defended his comments, saying in a later Facebook post that he had been “misrepresented” in media reports and that his comments are protected by the First Amendment.

    However, the original post behind the commotion was later removed from both his personal Facebook page and that of the sheriff.

    The sheriff did not respond to repeated phone calls and text messages seeking comment.

    The post has drawn backlash from Democrats and some residents, who have filed complaints with local, state and federal agencies. The sheriff’s comments also prompted the Portage County Board of Elections to stop using sheriff’s deputies to provide security during in-person early voting after concerns were raised.

    Last week, more than 100 people also attended the Portage County NAACP emergency meeting to discuss the issue.

    Why does Facebook suspend accounts?

    According to Facebook, the social media site suspends accounts “that do not comply with our Community Standards or Terms of Service.”

    An account may also be suspended “as a security measure because it may have been compromised.”

    “If your Facebook account is suspended, you’ll be notified in an email and when you access your account in an app or web browser,” Facebook says on its website. “We’ll also let you know if you can appeal the suspension if you believe we made a mistake. After logging in, follow the on-screen instructions to file your appeal.”

    Portage County Sheriff Appears on Fox News

    Zuchowski appeared on Fox News Tuesday night to defend his comments and to discuss the border crisis with an Arizona sheriff.

    Zuchowski told Fox News that people have asked him what he would do if “30,000 or more illegals” came to Portage County, similar to what is happening in Springfield, Ohio, he said.

    “At that point, as sheriff, I’m not going to do anything illegal,” he told Fox News. “After all the reasonable things are done in terms of what we can do with the people, I just made a comment to a bunch of people on my personal Facebook page that we need to remember where these signs were, because if there’s no other place to put these people, I see it as a welcome mat for people who have supported her…”
