Paris 2024 Olympics: New Zealand beats US in women’s rugby sevens semi-final

New Zealand are aiming for a second straight gold medal at the Olympic Games for women’s rugby sevens tournament after beating the USA 24-12 in the semi-final at the Stade de France in Paris on Tuesday.

Michaela Blyde and Stacey Waaka each had 2 tries and 10 points for the Black Ferns. Alev Kelter and Kristi Kirshe each had a try and 5 points for the USA in the loss.

New Zealand will face the winner of Canada-Australia in the gold medal match at 1:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The U.S., reaching the Olympic semifinals for the first time, will also go for bronze on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET

New Zealand women are now 3-0 in Olympic semi-finals. After beating Canada in Rio 2016, they lost to Australia in the gold medal match. In Tokyo 2020, they defeated Fiji before winning gold against France.
