Notorious Con Artist Cut From ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Anna Sorokin, the convicted con artist who defrauded banks, hotels and friends under the guise of an “heiress” named Anna Delvey, has reached the end of her run on “Dancing With the Stars.”

In a controversial casting choice for the reality series, Sorokin was required to wear an ankle bracelet on stage. Sorokin, who was described in her casting announcement as the “notorious ankle bracelet fashionista,” is under house arrest amid a looming deportation case.

Though she was released from prison in February 2021, she was detained by immigration authorities shortly after her release, claiming she had overstayed her visa and needed to return to her native Germany. The inspiration for “Inventing Anna” spent more than a year in ICE custody before a judge cleared the way in October 2022 for her to be transferred to home confinement while she fights her deportation case.

After her performance on KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See” on Tuesday with dance pro Ezra Sosa, Sorokin was cut from the series. Eliminations began in the second week of the series and are based on viewer votes.

When asked by the presenters on Tuesday night what she would take away from the competition, Delvey said emphatically: “Nothing.”

On Wednesday, she reiterated her “Good Morning America” spotlight, saying her favorite part of the experience was “getting eliminated.”

Sorokin and Sosa spoke to The Associated Press last week after her first performance. Of dancing with her ankle bracelet, which was decorated to match her costume, Sorokin said, “It’s actually not a big deal. It’s quite light and I asked them to tighten it so it doesn’t dangle. So it’s not that big of a deal.”

There is no word yet on whether Sorokin’s house arrest conditions will be changed to accommodate the show’s filming in Los Angeles, and it is also unclear how her long-running deportation case will proceed.

Tori Spelling, an actress best known for her roles on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” also lost weight on Tuesday’s episode. Following her rejection with partner Pasha Pashkov, Spelling described her time on the show as a “crazy transformative journey” and noted that she’s glad she faced her fears despite losing weight.

“I kept looking at my kids in the audience and I was like, ‘I love you. I love you.’ And I wanted them to know that no matter what happens, ‘I love you and thank you for being proud of me,'” Spelling said. “It goes by fast and you’re in your head because it’s scary. It’s really scary.”
