Kensington Tallman, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green and Grace Lu on their roles in ‘Inside Out 2’ – The Nerds of Color

Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is the highest-grossing film of all time. After grossing over $1.6 billion at the box office this past summer, the sequel is finally coming to our homes with a Blu-ray release and a Disney+ debut later this month.

In the final chapter, Riley’s (Kensington Tallman) emotions that make room for new ones and help their girl navigate the complexities of growing up, and maintain her friendships with Bree (Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green) and Grace (Grace Lu) while trying to make a good impression on the captain of the high school hockey team.

The story takes place shortly after the events of the first Inside Out, Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of Riley, a recently converted teenager on the brink of the inevitable life-changing experience of puberty. As Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Disgust (Liza Lapira), Anger (Lewis Black) and Fear (Tony Hale) attempt to navigate an updated and complicated control console, they must make way for Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Embarassment (Paul Walter Hauser), all of whom believe they are the more advanced emotions to help Riley’s complex life. The new group of emotions comes into conflict with the old ones, eventually banishing Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Fear from Headquarters. With a spot on the high school soccer team and her friendships with Bree and Grace on the line, Joy must find a way to get back to Headquarters and make room for the new emotions.

The Nerds of Color had the chance to chat with Tallman, Nuriddin-Green, and Lu about their favorite moments in the recording booth and what it’s like to be a part of such an iconic franchise. The trio also talked about working with director Kelsey Mann and what Inside Out 2 could teach audiences who might be going through similar experiences as their characters. We also had a little fun chatting about what emotion they think is at the heart of their control console and more.

Inside Out 2 is available today on Digital and Blu-ray and debuts on Disney+ on September 25, 2024.
