“His tools are no longer the same,” says Justine Henin on the reasons behind Novak Djokovic’s dominance against Rafael Nadal during their recent encounter

Former tennis player Justine Henin explained why Novak Djokovic completely dominated Rafael Nadal when they clashed in the second round of the Paris Olympics on Monday (July 29). On a packed Philippe-Chatrier court, Djokovic claimed his third victory over Nadal at Roland Garros with a score of 6-1, 6-4.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion, who was facing the Serb for the 60th time in his career, was completely outclassed in the first set but tried to force a comeback later in the second, but Djokovic eventually got the better of him and secured a place in the third round. Henin, the former world number 1 and winner of seven Grand Slam singles titles, believes that Nadal, although aware of his recent problems, was disappointed with the result. Even Nadal later admitted that he was far from good during the match and called his level ‘unacceptable’.

Of course he will leave this Philippe-Chatrier court disappointed because even if he is completely lucid and aware that his means are no longer the same and that he must deal with that, he remains a competitor, a great champion. The duel unfortunately ended a little short but the winner is logical.

Justine Henin told French television

However, Nadal is not yet out of the Olympics, as he has joined the young Carlos Alcaraz for doubles events. They have already started their campaign and are about to compete with Dutch players Tallon Griekspoor And Wesley Koolhof on Tuesday (July 30) in the second round.

With tennis matches at the Olympics ending on August 4 and the main draw of the Canadian Open starting on August 6, Djokovic had no choice but to skip the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal.

While we’re disappointed that Novak will be unable to take part in this year’s tournament, we understand his decision and wish him the best at the Olympics and the remainder of his season.

Montreal tournament director Valerie Tetreault said

While the Olympics could be the reason behind his decision this time around, it is also important to note that he has not competed in the event since his last participation in 2018. He has won titles in the tournament, the first in 2007, followed by his victories in 2011, 2012 and 2016.
