    Giants rookie star suffered a concussion late against Cowboys

    Malik Nabers enjoyed another great game for the New York Giants, but he left the team’s 20-15 “Thursday Night Football” loss to the Dallas Cowboys with a concussion.

    Nabers was hit late in the fourth quarter when he tried to make a catch on a fourth-down pass from Daniel Jones. He hit the ground hard on the sideline and stayed down after the game.

    Nabers suffered a concussion on the penultimate drive of the game for the Giants. He tried to catch a fourth-and-6 pass from Jones, but couldn’t quite secure the ball as he tried to tap in with his toes.

    Nabers fell to the ground and landed hard on his head and right shoulder, without being able to cushion his fall. He stood on the sidelines for a moment before being moved to a sitting position with his helmet off.

    Finally, Nabers got up and walked into the blue medical tent. Later he went to the locker room, where he stayed the entire game.

    Shortly after Nabers went to the locker room, the Giants announced that he had suffered a concussion and had been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

    Giants coach Brian Daboll did not provide an update on Nabers during his postgame news conference because he could not see his top wide forward before speaking to reporters.

    “He was at the doctors right before I came in here,” Daboll said. “I’ll see him right after.”

    Who is Malik Nabers’ backup on the Giants depth chart?

    Jalin Hyatt is the Giants’ No. 4 receiver and would likely be Nabers’ best backup. Hyatt was a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Tennessee and made 23 catches for 373 yards as a rookie. He hasn’t made a catch during his sophomore season, entering Week 4 with just 38 offensive snaps.

    Hyatt might get more playing time if Nabers misses time, but Wan’Dale Robinson would likely become the Giants’ No. 1 receiver. Robinson was targeted 14 times against the Cowboys and caught 11 passes for 71 yards.

    Veteran Darius Slayton would also see an increase in opportunities.

    Nabers was the Giants’ offensive catalyst in the loss to the Cowboys. He was targeted a team-high 15 times and caught 12 passes for 115 yards; he also ran the ball once during a sweep, although he lost four yards on the play.

    Nabers recorded 35 receptions, 388 yards and three touchdowns through his first four NFL games. He looked every bit the dynamic playmaker the Giants hoped to be when they selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
