Dragon Lights Reno brings the Year of the Dragon to Rancho San Rafael Park

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The highly anticipated Dragon Lights Festival opens to the public on Friday, September 27 at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, located in Rancho San Rafael. Over the course of two weeks, artisans will complete the installation of larger-than-life lanterns that will reflect this year’s theme: Year of the Dragon, to life.

Huiyuan Liu, the events manager, stopped by Morning Break to share details about this year’s theme and what guests can expect.

The festival will showcase more than 40 new, vibrant lantern sculptures crafted from steel, fabric and thousands of LED lights, transforming the arboretum into a radiant wonderland during Reno’s Midsummer Nights. Thematic areas include Asian Culture, Snow and Ice and Rainforest.

In honor of the Year of the Dragon, the centerpiece of the festival is a breathtaking 30-meter-long dragon, soaring majestically through a cherry blossom forest. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition and discover hidden surprises in the enchanting landscape.

The arboretum remains open to the public free of charge during the day, but guests and media are asked to keep their distance from the installation areas for their safety.

Dragon Lights Reno runs from September 27 to November 30. Click here to buy tickets.
