Anyone wondering what’s in store for Derrick Rose won’t have to wait long.

The veteran guard became a free agent earlier this week after the Memphis Grizzlies released him from his current contract. Rose had one season remaining at $3.3 million. What exactly led the two sides to this agreement is unclear.

While the Grizzlies have a crowded backcourt that would likely have left Rose looking on the outside of the rotation, the veteran could still have been a valuable presence in the locker room. As such, it feels like a decision Rose may have made himself, and Rose may have confirmed that on Wednesday night.

The former superstar posted a cryptic video to his Instagram page with the caption, “The Renascence 9.26. 24.” Not only does it show Rose in a lucid state of contemplation, but we also get flashes of his signature shoe and a throwback photo. All things considered, it’s hard not to think that Rose could be announcing a retirement.

Is this really the end of the road for Derrick Rose? Nope. It’s always possible he’ll make another big announcement. But given this week’s news, and Rose’s inability to play more than 27 games over the past three seasons, it seems like hanging up the sneakers could be on the horizon.

If this does indeed turn out to be the case, let’s hope that something is already in the works to ensure that he retires as a member of the Chicago Bulls. This may have been the reason for leaving the Grizzlies, as he is now free to sign – at the very least – a one-day deal with the organization.
