Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott impresses in win against Giants

The Dallas Cowboys offense came alive in their win against the New York Giants on Thursday night. That life didn’t last the entire game, but that’s a conversation for another day. This is winner’s day and the Cowboys have bought themselves time to catch their breath.

One of the highlights of Thursday night’s win was clearly Dak Prescott and the form he was in. Prescott finished 22 of 27 for 221 yards with two touchdowns on the night. His completion percentage above expectations was +14.7%, so it was a very efficient evening as he made quite a batch of lemonade with what he had to work with.

The point is that it is a remarkable efficient evening for Prescott. According to Next Gen Stats (shout out NFL Pro), Prescott specifically completed 13 of 14 passes fired within 2.5 seconds. These particular throws covered 143 of his total yards and included both touchdowns.

Regarding these plays specifically, Prescott had an above-expectation completion percentage of +21.2%. It was another very efficient evening for him.

The win was Prescott’s last against the Giants, actually his 13th in a row. The Cowboys have now won 14 of their last 15 games against their division rivals, with the lone loss coming in the 2020 season finale when Prescott did not start. New York last beat a Prescott-led Cowboys team when Dak was just a rookie (they beat Dallas that year).

A major reason for Prescott’s success was the re-emergence of CeeDee Lamb. He’s had a whole night.

As noted, this was far from the best of wins for the Dallas Cowboys. But the win column doesn’t care about style points. Dallas will wake up on Friday morning as the winner and have plenty of time to figure out the rest.
