College football scores, games, updates: Georgia at Alabama, Illinois at Penn State and more

The biggest game of the season (so far) is just around the corner.

No. 2 Georgia visits No. 4 Alabama on Saturday night in the first top-five game of the season. It’s the last of four ranked matchups during a loaded Week 5 slate.

However, the biggest achievement of the day came early on Saturday. Kentucky went into Oxford against No. 6 Ole Miss and stunned the Rebels, 20-17, in a back-and-forth affair that ended with a botched field goal that would have tied the score.

Later in the day, No. 21 Oklahoma got a late pick 6 to engineer a comeback win over Auburn and earn its first SEC win. No. 16 Notre Dame also scored a key win of its own by holding off No. 15 Louisville, while Colorado blew out UCF on the road.

Here are the biggest games left. Follow along as we break down all the action below.

Time: 7:30 PM | Television: NBC | Line: Penn State -18 | Total: 47.5

The Illini defeated previously undefeated Nebraska in overtime in Week 4, marking only the third time since 1951 that Illinois has won its first four games. A big reason for that is the improved play of former Ole Miss QB Luke Altmyer. Can he keep that up on the road against Penn State? Opposing QBs are averaging just 144 yards per game against the Nittany Lions.

Time: 7:30 PM | Television: ABC | Line: Georgia -1.5 | Total: 48.5

This matchup of perennial playoff teams features two Heisman contenders at quarterback. No QB is responsible for more TDs per game than Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, and Carson Beck spent much of the offseason as the favorite for the award. Beck’s 2024 season hasn’t lived up to the Heisman hype yet, but it won’t be a surprise if Beck has a big game.

Time: 10:00 PM | Television: FS1 | Line: Boise State -7.5 | Total: 64.5

Washington State is on the precipice of the AP Top 25 after a 4-0 start, including wins over Texas Tech, and Washington and QB John Mateer are swinging it. But the Cougars’ defense is allowing nearly five yards per carry — that’s a tasty stat for Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty, who leads the nation with an average of 10.5 yards per carry. There’s a reason he’s the non-QB with the best Heisman odds (+2000) at BetMGM.

Live128 updates

  • PSU forces point

Beaver Stadium is rocking now and Illinois can’t find its rhythm. That possession at the end of the first half seems to have changed the momentum in this match.

It will be a Penn State ball at midfield.

  • Penn State Touchdown!

Illinois and Penn State are back for the second half and the Nittany Lions just had a statement drive to restart things, driving 74 yards in 12 plays and capping it off with a four-yard run by Nicholas Singleton for the lead to take.

  • Halftime: Alabama 30, Georgia 7

Alabama completely owned that first half, and there was some pushing and shoving between some of the players just before they headed to the locker room. Bama called for an unsportsmanlike penalty to be called in the third quarter.

  • Alabama gets a safety!

Once again Georgia cannot benefit from a positive game. Bulldogs get an interception after CJ Dippre bobbles Jalen Milroe’s pass.

A few plays later, Georgia QB Carson Beck is called for an intentional grounder from his own end zone. It’s safety by rule. Two more points for the Tide, who now lead 30-7.

  • Halftime: Illinois 7, Penn State 7

The Illini will likely be seething after the late possession at the end of the half. They have a real chance to go into the 14-7 break. Instead, it’s still tied and PSU gets the ball first in the second half.

  • Alabama gets another INT!

Painful series for Georgia, which just got a big defensive stop on 4th and 1.

Carson Beck throws an interception to Jihaad Campbell on the next play and Bama is back at it.

Those are two choices for Beck, who is having a rough day so far.

  • One-handed TD catch alert!

Meanwhile, Jeremiah Smith is doing things like this for Ohio State tonight.

  • Disaster possession for Illinois

Oh my god. The Illini had just put a disastrous end to a possession after working it all the way to the goal line. A shotgun blast flew high, but they were able to find it. But Illinois kept going backwards on penalties, eventually getting to a 45-yard field goal attempt that David Olano missed.

Bret Bielema and Co. won’t be happy with the way that possession ended. There is less than a minute left in the half.

  • Georgia is on the board!

That was a much-needed score for the Bulldogs.

Trevor Etienne runs the ball in from seven yards out and the Alabama lead is cut to 28-7.

  • Nick Saban loves this…we think

The former Alabama coach keeps it professional. After all, he is now a member of the media.

  • Alabama scores again!

Jalen Milroe takes him down the sideline for a 36-yard touchdown run, and the rout is ON in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama 28, Georgia 0, early 2nd quarter. Who saw this coming?

  • PSU misses FG

After a long drive puts the Nittany Lions in range for a 40-yard field goal attempt, PSU kicker Sander Sahaydak misses the ball wide left.

With 5 minutes left in the first half the score is still 7-7.

  • ANOTHER Alabama TD!

Germie Bernard capitalized on the interception with a 7-yard touchdown run.

Alabama leads Georgia 21-0. It’s still the first quarter.

  • Alabama interception!

Bama’s Domani Jackson picks off Georgia QB Carson Beck with a short pass to the flat.

That’s Georgia’s first turnover of the season, and this couldn’t be a better star for the Tide!

  • Meanwhile, the Illini and Nittany Lions trade points after back-to-back scoring drives to open the game in Happy Valley.

Penn State will have the ball back on its own 7-yard line with just under 11 minutes left in the second half.

  • Touchdown Alabama!

Jalen Milroe drops a perfect pass to Jam Miller for the 16-yard score to cap an 84-yard drive.

What a start for the Tide, who quickly led Georgia 14-0.

  • Georgia must punt on its first drive after an offensive pass interference penalty on Dominic Lovett stopped the momentum. It looked like a clear push-off from Lovett.

  • Alabama starts with a TD!

QB Jalen Milroe takes it in himself from 7 yards out. That’s the first TD Georgia has allowed this season, and it only took one drive for Bama.

  • Penn State Touchdown!

Tyler Warren jumps into the end zone for a three-yard score. Nice answer for the Nittany Lions to tie the game.

    Penn State 7, Illinois 7. 1st quarter

  • Georgia vs. Alabama is here!

Georgia wins the toss and grants a postponement. Alabama starts with the ball.

Here we go in the game of the year so far.
