The roof of Tropicana Field was torn off by the winds of Hurricane Milton

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla – Winds from Hurricane Milton ripped off the roof of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg Wednesday evening.

Tropicana Field was a staging area for hundreds of Florida National Guard soldiers and electricians before the storm.

The baseball field was equipped with camp beds in the stadium earlier this week.

Guards at Tropicana Field were moved to Ocala on Wednesday before Hurricane Milton made landfall, according to the Florida National Guard.

A St. Pete Fire Rescue official said they have made contact with the people inside and they are all safe.
