Cleveland Guardians are making history rarely seen during ALDS in the past hundred years

The Cleveland Guardians are pulling out all the stops as they try to gain an American League Division Series lead with the Detroit Tigers.

According to Sarah Langs of MLB.com, the Guardians made a move rarely seen in the past 100 years of baseball history in Game 3 of the ALDS on Wednesday.

the Guardians are the third team in postseason history with multiple PH PA through the first three innings of a game, joining:

2021 NLCS G5 LAD
WS G4 CLE from 1920

Since the Tigers will use a bullpen game in Game 3, the Guardians will look to pursue good matchups against different sets of pitchers. They pinch-hit David Fry for Kyle Manzardo and also replaced Jhonkensy Noel for Will Brennan.

At the time of this post, the Guardians trail the Tigers 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. If the Guardians continue to falter, they will trail 2-1 in the best-of-five series.

Regardless of the outcome of this game, Game 4 of the series will be played Thursday at Comerica Park. Both teams want to advance to the ALCS, where they await the winner of the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals series.

The Guardians won the American League Central last season, manager Stephen Vogt’s first year at the helm. The Tigers used an incredible hot streak to reach the playoffs in the final week of the regular season.

Game 4 of the series will be played Thursday at 6:08 PM ET.
