LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Clark County issued a “Trop Dust” advisory Tuesday afternoon as the Strip prepares to turn away one of its most iconic hotels.

The advice concerns early Wednesday morning, when the Tropicana will be imploded to make way for the new A-field. The implosion will take place around 2:30 am, after a fireworks and drone spectacle.

Demolition experts say the implosion is expected to last 22 seconds, but provincial officials say the dust could linger much longer.

The implosion is expected to create a cloud of “tropical dust” that could linger in the area for several hours. However, the dust is not expected to linger for more than 24 hours.

“The dust cloud will be heaviest near the implosion site and will likely dissipate as it moves east,” said Paul Fransioli, senior air quality specialist at the Department of Air Quality.

People with heart or lung disease, seniors and children are advised to limit exposure to the outdoors and keep windows and doors closed all day.
