Las Vegas tourists get a front row seat at the Tropicana implosion at the Nirvana Hotel

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – There are no public viewing areas for the Tropicana Hotel implosion, which takes place at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. So spectators rush to get a front row seat, some booking hotel rooms with a view of the action.

Many hotels overlooking the Tropicana, including the MGM Grand, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay and Nirvana, sold out Tuesday night.

FOX5 spoke to some tourists from Australia who said they weren’t even aware of the implosion until they checked in on Monday, so the timing is a happy coincidence.

“When we checked in, our hotel concierge informed us that the building will implode tomorrow night, so we were lucky that we would have a fairly unobstructed view,” said Hannah Tarry during a visit to Las Vegas. from Sydney.

Now they feel fortunate to have the rare opportunity to see the Tropicana implosion live, as many surrounding hotels have run out of rooms for that night.

“I feel more compelled to watch it now that I know so many people came to see it. Otherwise I would feel like I was missing something,” says Tarry.

“The feeling of happiness. We are lucky Australians,” said Jesse Ball, who visited Las Vegas from Sydney.

Those visitors say they will watch the implosion from a viewing party at the Nirvana Hotel.

FOX5 stopped by the Nirvana Hotel on Monday evening to confirm details for that watch party, but the office was already closed.
