Washington Commanders LB Frankie Luvu has career game in win vs. Cleveland Browns

The Washington Commanders emerged victorious in their 34-13 victory against the Cleveland Browns, where linebacker Frankie Luvu had a career day.

Luvu had a career-high 2.5 sacks on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson in the win, but he feels like the defense still has more to show.

“We knew they were getting beat up a little bit on offense on their side of the ball as linemen, so we used that as an advantage as a defensive line trying to get behind them,” Luvu said after the game. we’ve got to have it on our shoulders as a defense, you know, like this is the game for us to take a step further than where we were last week. We’re just getting started and we’ll continue from there.”

The defense ranked 32nd in the NFL last season, but each week they are starting to make improvements. Over the past two weeks, commanders have allowed 14 points or fewer, which is hard to imagine from Washington’s defense a year ago.

As the Commander’s defense improves, they’re getting some love from the offensive and coaching staff.

“He brings energy to our team and incredible support,” coach Dan Quinn said. “So his ability to create disruptive plays going forward, the physicality. And so last week was the kind of catalyst that I thought was the forced fumble and the recovery from a big play. Today I felt more of his presence, while he honestly went forward and rushed the passer to get some action that way, but he brings a lot to our team.”

Luvu and the Commanders defense hope to continue their strong play in Week 6 when they face a big test against reigning MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
