In the wake of Word‘s phenomenal success – a game that captivated millions and was adopted by The New York Times early 2022 – the newspaper introduced Connections in 2023. This new puzzle game has quickly amassed a dedicated global fanbase, with players eagerly discussing strategies and sharing their daily results on social media.

Connections can be quite a challenge, and a little push can sometimes make all the difference. If you’re here for a hint, we’ve got your back. The answers for Monday’s puzzle are at the bottom of this article, so be careful if you prefer to solve the puzzle yourself.

How to play Connections

Every day, Connections presents players with a grid of 16 words. The goal is to organize these words into four groups of four, based on shared themes or characteristics.

The four groups are color-coded by difficulty: yellow (easiest), green, blue and purple (most challenging). Select four words that you think form a group. If correct, those words are highlighted and removed from the board. The color corresponding to the group is revealed, indicating the expected level of difficulty.

Players have up to four chances to guess wrong before the game ends. There is no time pressure, so you don’t have to rush. You can also shuffle the words on the board to discover connections you may have missed at first.

Connections editor Wyna Liu advises that when players identify five words that seem to fit into a category, they should first try to categorize another group. This approach can help clarify which words belong together through elimination.
